The effect of rollover footwear on head and trunk posture during standing

چکیده
Background Footwear with a curved sole profile has become popular due to the proposed benefits to gait, posture and altered muscle activity and tone. In addition, rocker profiled footwear are one of the most commonly prescribed therapeutic shoes [1-4]. The altered movement of the body over the foot due to the curved sole profile is assumed to alter the position of the hips and thereafter the trunk, spine and perhaps the head too. This could have some benefits for those with back pain [5]. However, whilst evidence for the effects on the lower limb is becoming comprehensive [1-4], there is a paucity of information for any effects on head and trunk posture.

The effect of rollover footwear on pain, disability and lumbar posture in patients with low back pain
Background Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders [1]. Exercise therapy is often advised [2,3] but requires a significant time commitment, can rely on equipment or health professionals and risks low compliance. As an alternative or adjunct, shoes with a curved sole profile are thought to produce beneficial changes in ankle, knee, hip and back position and postur...
متن کاملThe Ratio of Lumbar to Hip Motion during the Trunk Flexion in Patients with Mechanical Chronic Low Back Pain According to O’Sullivan Classification System: A Cross-sectional Study
Background: Static and dynamic postures of lumbopelvic in low back pain (LBP) are considered as two importantaspects of clinical assessment and management of LBP. Thus, the focus of the current study was to compare theposture and compensatory strategy of hip and lumbar region during trunk flexion between LBP subgroupsand healthsubjects. LBP cases are subdivided into active extension pattern (AE...
متن کاملImmediate effect of forward head rounded shoulder posture corrective orthosis on craniovertebral and protraction-retraction angles
Introduction: Forward head posture, which occurs often in conjunction with increased curvature in the upper body and rounded shoulder, is one of the most common postural deviations. Over time, this poor posture can contribute to the development of neck pain and shoulder dysfunction. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to design and develop a forward head rounded shoulder posture corrective ...
متن کاملEffect of rollover footwear on metabolic cost of ambulation, lower limb kinematics, kinetics, and EMG related muscle activity during walking
Background Footwear with a curved sole profile shifts the point of contact between the shoe and floor anteriorly compared to a flat shoe. There have been various reports of changes in ground reaction forces, external joint moments, and (rather inconclusively) muscle activity and energy consumption during walking in this “rollover” footwear [1-6]. The aim of this study was to investigate the eff...
متن کاملPrediction of Body Center of Mass Acceleration From Trunk and Lower Limb Joints Accelerations During Quiet Standing
Purpose: Predicting body Center of Mass (COM) acceleration is carried out with more accuracy based on the acceleration of three joints of lower limb compared to only accounting joints of hip and ankle. Given that trunk movement during quite standing is noticeable, calculating trunk acceleration in model might increase prediction accuracy of COM acceleration. Moreover, in previous research studi...
